About The Rattery and My Family
My name is Mackenzie, I am a stay at home mom to one beautiful little girl, and I am married to a wonderful man. I love animals, and throughout my life I have had the pleasure of sharing my home with many different species, but I was never allowed to own rats. When I moved out on my own and married, I knew it was time to get the rats I had always wanted. Once I owned my first pair of ratties, I knew I wanted to work with these little sweeties and find a way to improve their health and temperaments, and educate others on the wonderful friends and pets a rat can become. Our daughter is very involved in raising the pups as well, she is only one but her gentle little hands know exactly how to handle them, better then some of the older kids i've seen! She takes her time to give each and every single pup a kiss goodnight. When you get a rat from us, all of us have taken the time to give them extra loving and interaction from the whole family. We also have a tiny teacup Chihuahua who is as big as some of the rats, he too loves to play with the rats and they see him as one of the gang! In regards to breeding, I will never blindly throw two rats together. A lot of thought and consideration goes into each pair to find the best traits to pass on to the pups. I pledge to only breed quality rats to improve the species as a whole.
Mission Statement
My ratties are a very large part of my life, and I put a lot of my time and dedication into them. All I ask in return is that they give me some of that wonderful rat love. Breeding rats is not a way of making money for me, nor is it just about producing the "next big thing". Breeding rats is a way of trying to help rats as a whole. I also aim to educate the public on rats. Rats are great pets that are commonly thought of as unclean and worthless, but they are quite the opposite. They are very clean creatures and #9 on the Top 10 List of smartest animals. My dedication to breeding is not only for all of the rat world but to help future rat owners obtain a rat with the highest quality of life. Breeding is not for every one. It is hard work. But when you love an animal enough to give up all free time and vacations to stay home with your pet just to work and bond with them and you are constantly thinking of ways of pairing rats to benefit the health of all rats farther down the line, then and only THEN do you know that breeding may just be your calling. Breeding is just that, a calling. My calling has been Rats and my family and rats are now part of our family.
What Got Me Started
Blue Dagger : Blue Dagger is the combination of my two males rats that are the closest bonded with me. When i got these two i did not expect to fall this far in love with them! Blue is my little energetic ninja, and Dagger is my shy but cuddly love bug. Together they make the perfect pair. These two rats were the ones who started my idea for this rattery. When My family and I are around them, they have a way of bringing us all together. Every family deserves a pair of ratties like that! So i decided to take my love of rats and work with a very close friend of mine in the breeding industry as a mentor to help me learn the ropes first hand while still having a guide to make sure I make the best decisions possible as I learn. Together we produce high quality rats from great lines.
